Any GM mechanics in the house? Problem with 1998 Chevvy Malibu Stealing arrangement
Any mechanism surgery GM mechanics that can help forbidden?
Family has a 1998 Chevy Malibu with approx. 175K thereon.
The car's theft system is opening to carry on.
I believe the theft system is a titled a passive theft system where if theft system kicks in, you can't start the machine and the only cure is to put in the key into the ignition and leave IT in the ON office for 10 mins.
This is starting to find and is selfsame annoying since you need to wait 10 mins. Is in that location a way to bypass this?
I Google'd this and it seems like a common problem. I establish two different resolutions.
1. One is a key sequence to disable the Theft system, would this work?

I can't do option 2 myself and would want a mechanic to do this. Whatsoever idea how much this would cost?
The car is in bad shape, rust near the gas cap and rust on the doors. I don't wish to drop too much money but if I can spend $100 to bypass this theft system, maybe the car volition last this overwinter.

Would you befall to know approximately how much a car-mechanic would charge to arrange this?
Check the keystone is cleanse? I assume't truly know what you mean. We give birth been using the same key for years now and it looks good (not truly moth-eaten out or anything).

Your vehicle uses the PassLock (non to be confused with PassKey) anti-theft scheme. I'm non true if it is PL-I or PL-II on that vehicle but one of them.
The ignition piston chamber (Non the key) contains a resistance which has a value celebrated as the R-Code. The R-Code is passed through the IPC (Instrument Panel Constellate) which verifies the R-Code and tonality start (rotation) sequence. In one case the IPC determines the R-Code is received right, it sends a password to the PCM to enable the injector array.
When something goes wrong in this process (operating theatre the vehicle is attempted to be started without the important) the vehicle may start and run breifly just will cut off well-nig suitable away.
The 10 atomic wait you are describing is how the IPC learns a new key cylinder (in the event IT was replaced). If the method does work, I'm about 90% sure that you wish get the "Larceny SYS" Oregon equivalent lighting-up on, connected the dash. Non a big look at if the car starts and runs fine, just scarce an annoyance.
Really I would get information technology diagnosed and repaired by rights; but if you want to try that method acting you can go ahead and try. Information technology's not all that hard to do.

Should have the Saame system Eastern Samoa my 2001 Imposing Am. This trouble is resolved by cutting a old electrify while the car is running. A switch can past be gain the wire so information technology can be re-enabled if you need.
